2023 Annual Conference a Success!

We came together last week in Charleston – May 17-19 – for our Annual Conference at the Charleston Marriott. Nearly 200 attendees, speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors enjoyed continuing education from some of healthcare’s finest thought leaders, participated in essential networking events with peers and old friends, honored outstanding industry achievement with our annual awards, and experienced the sold-out exhibit hall full of Alliance sponsor products and services.

Thank you to our speakers and exhibitors for sharing your knowledge and expertise and thank you to our sponsors for your continued support of our organization: we couldn’t do it without you.

And, lastly, thank you to our volunteers for leading the organization and keeping us moving in the right direction: your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed.

Michael Riddick, MBA (center) is recognized as the 2023 NCMGMA-Curi Administrator of the Year

The Administrator of the Year award, presented by Curi, honors a medical practice administrator who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and management proficiency, and who has helped enhance the effectiveness of healthcare delivery in North Carolina. The Administrator of the Year Award also provides the recipient with a stipend for continuing education at a state or national Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) meeting or professional development through ACMPE.

Snack Packs for NourishNC

At the close of the Breakout Sessions on Thursday morning, attendees, exhibitors and volunteers assembled 400+ snack packs for NourishNC. NourishNC’s mission is to provide healthy food to hungry children, empowering them to succeed in the classroom and in their community. Thank you to everyone who participated in this essential service project!

Members Out and About: Cam Cox Featured in MGMA Podcast

NCMGMA member and Advocacy Committee Co-Chair Cam Cox, III, was recently featured in the recent MGMA podcast “Owning It! Strategic Planning, Navigating M&A and Staying Independent in Healthcare Today.” The podcast discusses the reasons behind the high rate of mergers, acquisitions and the overall landscape of medical practice consolidation.

Also featured in the podcast is Will Latham of Latham Consulting Group, who has been a frequent NCMGMA conference speaker in the past.

NCMGMA Boasts Largest Advocacy Days Ever!

With over 115 attendees in-house on Wednesday, NCMGMA celebrated our largest-ever Advocacy Days event. Our speaker lineup this year included Attorney General Josh Stein; Chip Baggett, NCMS; Cody Hand, NCHS; NC State Treasurer Dale Folwell; Dr. Mandy Cohen, DHHS; and a panel that include four of the newest Medicaid Managed Care payors. Our speakers and panelists brought our attendees up-to-date on everything from the State Health Plan to the latest happenings with Medicaid Managed Care.

And just this morning, over 40 members set out to meet with their representatives at the North Carolina General Assembly to discuss important healthcare issues including:

• Joint HHS Appropriations Committee for Medicaid Managed Care and the importance of awareness of the additional requirements now shifting to the providers due to multiple types of Insurance Carriers. Additionally, changes to the Fee for Service contracts moving to value-based care contracts and the administrative burden shifting to providers.
• The Save Act asking providers not to vote for this bill as supervision from physicians is necessary to maintain the highest quality of care for our NC residents.
• HB184 – Study of State Health Plan Design, asking to keep the bill as it currently is until more definite options are in place for quality and cost savings for the members and tax payers.
• S886 – In favor of the Small Business Healthcare Act reducing employees from 26 to 12.
