BCBSNC Updates

The following are the most recent updates and important notices from BCBSNC:

Release Dates: September 10 and 11, 2015

Important Updates and Reminders:

  • Are you considering if telehealth might be right for your practice and patients?  If so, you may be interested in reading a feature about Video Consults and Provider Workflow in the current digital issue of ExecutiveInsight.  The article is written by the senior vice president of products at TouchCare, which is a Durham-based company that offers an app for video consults.  BCBSNC members can download the app for free an ask their personal physicians to join.  Providers considering telehealth services should review BCBSNC’s Corporate Reimbursement Policy for Telehealth prior to offering telehealth services to their BCBSNC patients.
  • Reminder:  As with any services for BCBSNC members, please remember that in-network labs must be used for BRCA genetic testing.  Not doing so puts our members in the middle, results in higher out-of-pocket costs for them, and could result in termination from our networks as a participating BCBSNC provider.  Please refer to your provider agreement with BCBSNC re your contractual obligations to use in-network providers and labs on behalf of your BCBSNC patients.  This is a good opportunity to remind providers that BCBSNC implemented an out-of-network lab fee schedule on July 15.
  • Did you know these articles are posted online on the Important News page of our provider Web portal at www.bcbsnc.com/providers?  Please visit the news page and scan through recent and past articles at your convenience.

Alicia Stokes, MHA and Janet McCauley, MD, MHA, CPC, FACOG
Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina

North Carolina Medical Society Foundation, in cooperation with the North Carolina Medical Group Management Association, invites you to join us to discuss Telemedicine as part of care transformation and how it will be compensated by BCBSNC.  Time will be reserved for questions and answers within the last fifteen minutes of the presentation.

Alicia Stokes, MHA, has worked for BCBSNC for the past two years. Prior to joining BCBSNC, she worked on the provider side at a large academic medical center here in NC for almost a decade. Her goal in joining BCBSNC is to leverage her prior experiences and her knowledge of the healthcare ecosystem to enable a more value/outcomes based relationship between the Enterprise, our members, and our provider partners.

Janet McCauley, MD, MHA, CPC, FACOG, is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist with over fifteen years of clinical experience in private practice. She is currently a Senior Medical Director in Medical and Reimbursement Policy at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, where she serves as clinical lead for development and implementation of medical and payment policy, and supervises the Corporate and Medicare Advantage Appeals Departments.
