Appalachian State University Creates the Kevin Bilson Leadership Scholarship Fund

Bilson

Kevin Bilson

In honor of the memory of Kevin Bilson, the health care management faculty at Appalachian State University has created the Kevin Bilson Leadership Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is for students interested in a career in health care management.

Serving for over a decade, Kevin was a founding member of ASU’s Health Care Management Program’s Advisory Board. He was a mentor to numerous students through his active participation on the Board, precepting interns, and hosting student club site visits. His two sons, Max and Mason, were also students in the program.

The scholarship is funded by health care management faculty members. Should you like to contribute please contact either Jenny Ward at wardjs1@appstate.edu or Dave Williams at willimsdr@appstate.edu.

ASU Masters of Health Administration Program – Fall 2017 Admissions

Appalachian State University’s Master of Health Administration (MHA) is currently accepting applications for admission fall 2017. The MHA program is a forty-six (46) credit hour program delivered in a hybrid online format. The majority of instruction is in an asynchronous online mode with students spending no more than 1.5 days per semester on the Appalachian campus. The degree is aimed at working professionals, who desire to advance their knowledge and competencies in health care administration and management. Students have the opportunity to focus in either leadership or health information systems, with course work offered on a full-time and part-time basis.

With health care management faculty teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate programs the rigor and quality for which the baccalaureate health care management program is known is carried forward to the MHA program. The MHA curriculum has been developed with significant input from executives on our Health Care Management Advisory Board. The courses are designed with a theory to practice perspective that incorporates authentic projects and assignments in an active learning environment. The small class size and use of digital technologies allows students to meet and interact when convenient yet simulates the face-to-face classroom.

ASU Hybrid Online MHA Degree

ASU recently received approval to offer a hybrid online MHA degree beginning in the fall of 2016. This degree is designed for working professionals with minimal time spent on-campus. I’ve attached a letter to our alumni and friends and a brochure describing the degree further. If you have any questions, or would like to speak further about this new degree, please contact me or Sandi Lane (lanesj1@appstate.edu).
